A Space for highs, lows and growth

HI, I’M KRISTIE MULDER

I have now been a PT for 9 years, and I am still so fascinated with the human body and how to help it function better. Through being a physical therapist I have the opportunity to share my knowledge of the human body with my patients and utilize that knowledge to significantly impact their lives.

The early years of my career were spent in an orthopedic clinic treating a variety of injuries, but with a special focus on low back pain. This is such a common experience for people, and one that so significantly impacts their life. I find it to be one of the most rewarding things to treat because of the impact it can make on the lives of others.

This experience set me up well for transitioning into treating the pelvic floor. The pelvic floor doesn’t function independent of the rest of the body, so we can’t treat it, without also addressing what is going on in the core, mid-back, hips and beyond-which was everything I worked hard to learn while treating orthopedics.

The blending of these two worlds has been such a fun experience. I have patients come in with pelvic floor complaints, and we end up also fixing their back or hip pain too. Or they come in for shoulder pain, we realize it’s connected to their mid-back function, improve their core activation and suddenly we’ve fixed not just their shoulder, but also their low back and pelvic floor pain!

I truly believe my experience in orthopedics AND women’s health sets me up to provide much more comprehensive care for my patients than other therapists who only treat one or the other-And I am so grateful for that.

My goal through Firm Foundation Physical Therapy is to provide a space of learning for patients as they go through the challenges of having a body that doesn't always work as expected. I chose a cash-based model to allow me to give patients what they need. Patients have so many questions as they experience changes in their body. I want to be able to take the time to answer those questions AND provide the movements necessary to feel better.
